How to use mocks

A simple plan that actually improves timing + accuracy

Mocks should measure and pressure-test. The score gains come from the review loop.

  1. Pick your exam hub above and start with one timed paper as a baseline.
  2. Sit it properly: timed, no pausing, no looking things up.
  3. Mark immediately: label each miss (knowledge gap vs misread vs overthinking vs timing).
  4. Make a “Rules List”: 20–40 one-liners; review every 48–72 hours.
  5. Re-sit misses 48–72 hours later (missed questions only).
  6. Final run-in: do full rehearsals under exam conditions.

Tip: use mid-week timed blocks + weekend full mocks to rehearse stamina.

FAQs

ENT mock papers — quick answers

Quick answers before you buy.

Are these official past papers?

No — OtoPrep is an independent educational resource. These are exam-style mock papers designed to replicate the feel, timing, and decision-making demands of each exam pathway.

Which exam formats do these mocks target?

FRCS (ORL-HNS) Section 1: two written SBA papers (120 questions each, 2h 15m). ABOHNS Written Boards/Qualifying Exam: computer-based, proctored, closed-book. EBEORL-HNS Part I: 100 MCQs (single best answer) with no negative marking, English-only.

Should I learn from mocks?

Use mocks to measure. Use the question bank to learn. The combination is what drives score gains: mock sit → review → “rules list” → re-sit misses.

When should I start mock papers?

Ideally 8–10 weeks out for a baseline. If you’re late, start now with one timed paper to expose gaps, then follow with targeted Q-bank blocks and a second timed sit within 5–7 days.

Do the mock papers include explanations?

Yes — every mock is built for learning from misses. Use explanations to create short “rules” and reduce repeat errors.

Bundle vs individual papers — what’s best?

Bundle is simplest if you want a structured run-in. Individual papers are great if you want one high-impact timed sit (e.g., a final rehearsal paper close to exam day).

Ready to rehearse exam day?

Choose your exam hub and start with a baseline timed paper — then iterate your “rules list” until scores stabilise.
