What you get

Stations + structure + reps — built for repeatable improvement

Learn structure, then practise out loud until delivery becomes automatic — with shared minutes you can spend on viva or comms.

  • 100 clinical viva stations (rapid prompts + model answers and examiner-style angles).
  • 40 communication stations (consent/risk, conflict, bad news, SDM, counselling).
  • Full-screen voice sessions (Viva / Viva Tutor / Simulation) using shared minutes.
  • Transcripts + feedback saved so you can tighten what you actually said.
Quick timing guide:
  • Clinical viva: aim for ~5 minutes per run close to exam.
  • Communication: aim for ~10 minutes for full conversations.
  • Use Extend in 5-minute blocks if needed.
Oral Simulation Minutes

Shared minutes for viva + communication

Oral Simulation Minutes power the full-screen voice engine. Minutes are shared across station types and voice modes.

Included with paid access:
  • 300 minutes per month during your access period (shared).
  • Minutes are used in blocks (typically 5-minute blocks).
  • Starting a session reserves blocks based on the time limit; tap Extend to add another block.

Does 4 months cover enough practice?

  • 100 clinical × ~5 min500 min
  • 40 comms × ~10 min400 min
  • Total900 min for one full pass
  • 4 months × 300 min = up to 1200 min across access → room for repeats + weak areas

Best value usually comes from short runs + repeats (openings, signposting, safety/escalation), not one long “perfect” attempt.

FRCS Section 2 (VIVA) FAQs

Clear answers on access, shared minutes, voice sessions, and top-ups.

What’s included in the Section 2 Pass?

You get the full hub: 100 clinical viva stations + 40 communication stations, plus the full-screen voice engine (Viva / Viva Tutor / Simulation). Paid plans include 300 Oral Simulation Minutes/month (shared).

Is the free trial really free — and what do I get?

Yes. The free trial is 7 days and includes 25 Oral Simulation Minutes (typically 5 × 5-minute blocks), so you can try real timed voice sessions before choosing a plan.

Are minutes shared between clinical viva and communication stations?

Yes — one shared minutes wallet. Spend minutes on viva or comms (and across voice modes) however you want.

How are minutes deducted? (blocks + Extend)

Minutes are typically used in 5-minute blocks. Starting a session reserves blocks based on your selected time limit. If you hit the time limit, tap Extend to add another block.

Best value tip: start shorter and extend only if needed.

Do monthly included minutes roll over?

Monthly included minutes refresh each month during your access period. Unused monthly allowance minutes typically do not roll over. Your minutes screen inside the app shows your reset date.

What if I run out of minutes?

You can purchase top-up Oral Simulation Minutes. Your minutes screen shows your balance and (if applicable) any “expiring soon” minutes.

Can I use OtoPrep on mobile?

Yes. It’s mobile-friendly. For voice sessions, allow microphone access; for best results use stable internet and a quiet room.

Is OtoPrep affiliated with the FRCS exam board?

No. OtoPrep is an independent educational platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any examining body. Exam names are used for descriptive purposes only.
